Frequently asked questions

We get a lot of questions about, for example, transport to and from the airport and public transport in the city. Or about which sights should not be missed.
We address many of those questions on this website, but some of the most important are listed here.

The main airport is 'Aeropuerto de Valencia' with the code VLC, which is well-connected to the city.

Some airlines also offer flights to Castellón (CDT) under the label of 'Valencia.' However, if you want to come to the city of Valencia, do not book those flights! The airport is more than 100 kilometers away from the city, and public transportation is not very convenient. Taxis are quite expensive, so be cautious when making your booking.

Alicante Airport, located nearly 200 kilometers away, is not suitable for visiting the city.

From Valencia Airport, you have several transportation options to reach your accommodation. You can choose from the metro, buses, taxis, and private transfers. Metro Line 3 connects the airport to the city center, while buses also provide regular connections. Taxis are available outside the airport, and private transfers can be pre-booked to take you directly to your accommodation.

It is advisable to research in advance which option is most suitable for your specific situation and budget.

The best months to visit the city are typically from April to June and September to November. During these periods, you can expect pleasant weather with mild temperatures and fewer crowds. July and August can be very hot, and many local residents take vacations, which can result in limited availability of services and attractions.

Valencia offers various types of accommodations, including hotels, hostels, holiday apartments, and bed & breakfasts. The choice depends on your budget, preferences, and travel companions. Hotels are ideal for comfort and amenities, while hostels and holiday apartments can be suitable for travelers on a tighter budget or those who prefer self-catering. Take a look at our website, where we have curated the best choices for you.

Some must-see sights and activities in Valencia include the City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias), the historic neighborhood of Barrio del Carmen, the Central Market (Mercado Central), Valencia Cathedral, the Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia), Las Torres de Serranos, and La Malvarrosa Beach. Don't forget to taste the local cuisine and experience a traditional paella.

Valencia has a well-developed and affordable public transportation system consisting of buses, trams, and the metro. These provide convenient ways to travel around the city and explore its various attractions. Additionally, it's is a bike-friendly city, with many bike rental companies available. You can also reach many of the central attractions on foot since they are often within walking distance of each other.

You can buy public transportation tickets at all 'Tabacos' shops  throughout the city. You purchase a rechargeable card with, for example, 10 rides loaded onto it. The card itself costs 2€, and 10 rides cost 4€. You can easily top up this card whenever needed. Just stop by an Estanco, and it will be taken care of. However, please note that cash payment is often the only accepted method for purchasing tickets and rides.

An alternative is to buy a Valencia Tourist Card which gives you total free entrance to the public transport.

Valencia is known for its vibrant festivals and events. The most famous festival is Las Fallas, which takes place in March and involves the creation and burning of enormous papier-mâché sculptures. Another notable festival is La Tomatina, a tomato fight held in Buñol in August. In July, there's the month-long Feria de Julio, a summer festival featuring concerts and cultural events. It is advisable to check the dates of these events and decide whether you want to participate or avoid them based on your personal preferences.

Valencia is renowned for its delicious cuisine, particularly the famous paella. Trying an authentic Valencian paella is a must, prepared with rice, chicken, rabbit, beans, and saffron. Other local specialties are tapas, anchovies, and fresh seafood. Don't forget to drink horchata, a refreshing drink made from tiger nuts.

There are numerous restaurants and tapas bars where you can savor these delights, especially in the El Carmen neighborhood and around the Central Market.

The official languages of Valencia are Spanish and Valencian, which is a dialect of Catalan.

English is generally spoken everywhere in the tourist areas.
