The House – Museum is located in El Carmen, close to the Jardín de Turia. The main building was built in 1880, it was the family home of José Benlliure Gil who bought it in 1912 on his return from Rome, renovated and furnished it with items brought from Italy.

In the back of the beautiful mediterranean garden the pavilion was his own study and workshop and also of his son's “Peppino's”.  The estate and its collections were donated to the city in 1957 by María Benlliure Ortiz. It was inaugurated in 1982 as a museum includes the romantic garden and the painting pavilion.
